Public testing is beginning
Rex is ready for public testing. We're beginning to invite members of our mailing list today.

Rex is a drop-in replacement for whichever terminal you use today and you will feel an instant upgrade in user experience, quality, and capabilities such as persistent sessions, performant and responsive remote connections, program activity status, and more. Plus, it's simply beautiful.
What is available
Initially, we're limiting testing to our macOS application.
The macOS application self-hosts its own Rex server and it is able to connect to other Rex servers. If you have multiple macOS devices, you can run Rex on all of them and connect to any through the macOS application.
Rex is not limited to macOS. We already have Rex servers running on Linux and Windows, and we have Rex clients for iOS, Linux, and Windows at varying stages of readiness. We hope to expand the scope of public testing quickly, but they aren't part of testing yet.
What to expect
We ran a small private testing program with about 50 people and we've been successfully using Rex every day for real work for months. We are confident in the quality of what we've built.
That being said, public testing always turns up environments and use cases we didn't anticipate, so while the product has been incredibly stable for us and our small private testing group, we're sure to find edges we'll fix quickly through the test program.
What it costs
Rex is and will always be free.
You do not need to create an account. You can fully self-host your Rex servers on any platform (initial testing is limited to macOS, as noted above). We do not see or share your data.
We're not ready to share our commercialization plan today, but we'll talk more about it prior to the stable public release. Rest assured, the Rex clients and servers themselves are not going to be directly monetized, won't require an account, won't share data, and can be entirely self-hosted.
What is next
Invites will go out in increasingly large waves as we prove out product stability, but our intention is to work through the entire list in less than a month.
The test program requires signing up to the mailing list. When we're ready for a stable public release, you will be able to download Rex directly without sharing any contact information.

We'll let you know when our beta for the terminal multiplexer is available, and any OSS releases along the way.
